Jama Rand
Jama began her career in HR while working for a small consulting geological consulting firm in Utah. She earned a MS in Human Resource Economics from the University of Utah and parleyed that education into a solid career providing internal and external human resources consulting to the health care industry, credit unions, municipal governments, insurance, manufacturing, and public utility organizations in Utah, California, Idaho and Washington. Although her focus tended to be in Compensation and Benefits, she has a strong generalist background.
In addition to her MS in HR, she holds a BA in Liberal Arts from Weber State University, and a PhD in Organization and Management from Capella University, where she took classes virtually. Her experience as a virtual student gives her empathy for working adults taking classes in this modality, and also a realistic expectation of what can be accomplished when learners have a solid and irrevocable study plan.
Jama is a founding principle with Seattle Research Partners, Inc. specializing in organizational design, and human resource programs. SRP has been a partner with Seattle Pacific University and SHRM, offering the SHRM Learning Program for more than twenty years. She has co-authored two books: Strategic Thinking Acting & Learning and Strategic Learning.
She has spent the last 10 years working for Strayer University where she held a variety of academic leadership positions and now serves as adjunct faculty for the Graduate School of Business teaching virtual courses in Human Resource Management and Business Administration.
She lives in Lake Stevens Washington with her husband, Jim, and dog Huck. Together they have five children and 17 grandchildren. Jama has a variety of interests that fuel her creative spirit and is an award winning stained glass artist.
She embodies the Oscar Wilde thought: “Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.”
